Trees action group launches report to promote canopy trees in urban areas

Be the first to comment A publication aimed at persuading developers, designers and planners of the need for large canopy trees in the urban environment will be launched this spring.

The Canopy is the result of a collaboration between the Trees and Design Action Group (TDAG) and Design for London, and will focus on assisting developers and planners to address challenges, such as utilities.

The idea is that the publication will provide an accessible source of information from TDAG's 2008 document No Trees No Future.

The Tree Council's director general Pauline Buchanan Black, who was among the arboriculture representatives and landscape architects manning the TDAG stand at Ecobuild, said it was crucial to push tree planting outside the environmental sector.

"The (Ecobuild visitors) are the people who need to hear the message," she said.

"There are so many reasons to put trees in urban areas. People do buy into it but there is a lot of difference between them standing in front of you saying, 'This is absolutely right' and going away and doing it."
